NAME: family: accipitridae; species ‘Gyps Fulvus’ in Latin
‘lo Butre’ in ‘ossalois’, the local dialect.
DESCRIPTION: tawny in colour, its head and neck are bare like those of other species of vultures. Fine white feathers are found round the base of its neck. Its grey beak is powerful and sharp.
Airborne, its huge wings form a rectangle. The primaries are largely spread out at the tips, its tail is short and slightly round.
BODY MEASURMENTS: one of the biggest birds of prey with a wing span of 2.50 – 2.70 metres, a height of 95 - 109 cm and a weight of 7 - 10 kilos.
